When you're working on a site that's under one of our care plans, you have a few options for creating staging environments. Here's what you need to know.
Important note on going live
After you push any staging site live, let us know in Slack so we can:
- Verify our care plan tools are syncing properly
- Update site notes with any plugin changes or new licenses
Using temporary host staging
You can use the staging environment provided by your site's host (Valerian, SiteGround, WP Engine, etc.) just like you normally would. However, create your staging environment after we've onboarded our care plan tools—not before. This way, most of our tools will still be in place when you push staging to production.
Troubleshooting potential issues with care plan tools
It’s possible that you may run into problems with two of our tools:
- MalCare: If Malcare blocks your staging environment, send us a message in Slack and we'll unblock it.
- 2FA: Depending on the staging URL, app-based 2FA sometimes won't work. Use a backup code to log in, then disable the 2FA plugin while you're working on staging.
Using MalCare staging (temporary)
Need a quick staging site for troubleshooting, testing an idea, or as a reference? We can create a temporary staging environment through MalCare using any of our backups (or create a fresh one). Just let us know in Slack and we'll set it up and send you the credentials!
Permanent staging/dev environments
If your client needs changes made on a permanent dev or staging environment before pushing to production, that requires a care plan add-on. Learn more about this option: What add-ons are available?
